The Powerful Lessons of Waves: Honouring the Movement of the Waves

There’s something about the way that waves can teach us about movement through life.

The intensity of waves can change within minutes or hours, and it definitely changes by the day. Someday you might get small and quiet waves, the other days you may get monstrous, loud and crashing waves.

When it comes to life, waves can be thought of as different people. Waves can be thought of as different emotions. Waves can represent any aspect of life as you see fit. It’s important to recognize that waves are beautiful when they are still and they are beautiful when they’re crashing down. Some people love the water when it’s quiet and prefer to swim with calm waters, others love the thrill of the waves crashing into them.

Just like the waves, there are days when you might feel like you need to slow down and take care of yourself at a slower pace. To be still. There are other days when you feel that you can take on the world and the many tasks throughout your day. Where you are working in overdrive just like the waves. It is all about balance.

Just like the waves, your emotions may fluctuate from day-to-day or multiple times throughout the day. So let’s practice accepting the changes and understand that it’s part of moving through life. If you get stuck with one emotion, say sadness or anger for example, it impacts the world around you and how you perceive the world. It is important that you don't get stuck with that one emotion, like it is important that the strength of the waves changes throughout the day as a natural cycle.

Just like the waves good things can happen when you are quiet & still and when you are loud & crashing.

This is something that I work on everyday and some days my mind, my emotions and life may get the best of me. But I try to remember where I am, I try to recognize that emotions will pass when I am feeling stuck. I have learnt to honour slowing down, and in turn, it has helped me to go down a new path.
